As part of our efforts to enable young people to reflect on war and conflict, we offer creative workshops to schools in the UK (or other education providers) lasting approximately 90 minutes. Writing poetry, speeches and songs is an exciting endeavour which can reinforce and stimulate children to express themselves freely through music and writing.  We find that using creative arts enables pupils to express thoughts and feelings about conflict in a new way, to engage creatively with a challenging topic, and create something they can all feel truly proud of.

In previous years, songwriting workshops have led to groups winning prizes in the competition!  Hasting Hill Academy and Lossiemouth High School both worked with Marty on their brilliant songs, and Ysgol y Tywn worked with Bethzienna on ‘Colourful World’. At a speechwriting workshop at the Cabinet Office, students from Hackney wrote powerful speeches on topics that were meaningful to them, such as knife crime, gang violence and terrorism.

The project will:

• Connect the music and English curriculum's which will enhance the standards of literacy particularly creative writing

• Add to your pupils’ emotional well-being programme

• Give pupils an opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings

• Give pupils an opportunity to perform their own composition(s)

The workshops will:

• Give pupils opportunities to work with creative art professionals

• Develop writing skills

• Develop compositions, lyrical ideas, melodies, instrumentation, poetry and speech techniques and public speaking skills.
