Sahir Ludhianvi was a contemporary of Amrita Pritam and their love story is known to be the most fascinating romantic story of partition. Ludhianvi was a poet of legendary calibre who espoused socialist ideas. He wrote many popular songs for Indian cinema in both Hindi and Urdu.

Ludhianvi was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, but moved to Lahore in 1943 where he became well known. He later fled to India in 1949 after the government issued an arrest warrant for his controversial communist writings.
